We aim to freely design this men’s boutique. “Why can’t we preserve the original architecture and transform it into an experimental space? This space could allow people to rediscover and explore, bringing them new experiential opportunities.” We hope to create a flexible, open display in this project. The old building has five floors, each with a modest footprint, and almost every level still features specific architectural elements that define its space.
Respecting and preserving the suitable elements and spaces of the existing architecture, we integrate new design concepts and spaces to make it a building with flexible functionality. For instance, we intentionally expose the wooden structures of the ceilings and construct gantries using metal frames. We also use granite to anchor the original wooden staircase structures and the junctions with walls, enhancing the visual boundaries of these intersections. On the second floor, we remove several irregular trapezoidal ceiling panels, replacing them with glass to open up the space. This creates an open and surprisingly engaging experience.
